Headline: "AOL radio continues three-month drop in latest Arbitron ratings"
BY DANIEL MCSWAIN
Arbitron and comScore have released their latest Online Radio Ratings studies for the months of April and arbitronMay.

AOL Radio's
M-Su 6A-12P AQH continued to slide, dropping 45% from its April numbers according to Arbitron's radio ratings for July.

That puts Yahoo! LaunchCast back on top of Arbitron's ratings for the first time since February of this year. Clear Channel, which previously enjoyed four straight months of growth, dropped slightly in June only to stabilize in July.

The "average quarter hour" estimate, or AQH, is defined as the  estimated average number of persons tuned to a channel  for at least five minutes during a 15 minute period. It can be understood as "the number of people listening to a station at a specific moment."

Numbers formatted in boldface maroon denote either an increase or no change compared to the previous month's rankings.

RAIN's coverage of the ratings from the online radio ratings service Webcast Metrics, which covers a different set of webcasters, is here.

From FMQB: "CBS Radio,
Clear Channel, Cumulus, Cox, Entercom and Greater Media announced today that they are in the process of installing iTunes Tagging technology to go along with their HD2 channels.

"This means that consumers who hear a song on an HD Radio station will soon be able to preview, buy and
download it later on iTunes with the touch of a button on an enabled HD Radio receiver. JBL and Polk Audio will have the first available products that enable iTunes Tagging, where users just hit the 'tag' button to essentially bookmark a song.

"The Polk I-Sonic Entertainment System 2 and the JBL iHD, both including the tag button, will go on sale
this holiday season. Additional products that include the tag button will follow in early 2008.

From the Chicago Sun-Times: "One of Chicago's most venerable rock-formatted radio stations, WXRT-FM (93.1), is asking local residents to imagine what our city would be like without it.

"WXRT's new interactive ad campaign... encourages fans of the station to post on the radio station's Web site... how they would complete the thought "Chicago without XRT would be..."

"Many of the listeners' most provocative responses will be displayed online, and Brad Auerbach, director of marketing for the CBS Radio owned-and-operated station, said the best of the lot will be incorporated into the second and third month of WXRT's outdoor ad campaign...

"In a test of the campaign conducted before it went live late last week, Auerbach got some blunt replies, including 'Chicago without XRT would be New York,' 'Chicago without XRT would be not my kind of town,' and 'Chicago without XRT would be a city with no soul.'"
