Headline: "Classical fans get modern tech, show high digital adoption rates"
From Digital Music News: "Classical music fans
are far more digitally savvy than most think, according to a recent research finding from Gramophone magazine.

"More than one-third of classical fans access music from PCs, digital radio receivers, internet-based radio, digital television, and portable MP3 players, according to the publication. Meanwhile, more than half have ripped at least some of their CD-based classical collection, according to the finding...

"[T]he classical genre is emerging as both a unique and lucrative one, both in the physical and digital realms. Part of that can be attributed to higher education and income levels among many  classical aficionados, as well as a more discerning – and demanding – outlook towards quality.

"The survey noted that one-in-five classical fans legally download, while the same number prefer listening to their music on portable MP3 players. Meanwhile, the magazine noted that the average number of classical downloads perDigital Music news  person last year was 12, while the average number of purchased CDs was 12.7. The group also noted that older classical listeners were highly active buyers, both digitally and physically."
