According to RadioAMP Vp of Business Development Charlie Moore, "It's all about driving 'frequency of use.'" His company has introduced an Internet audio system of that allows users to personalize what news, weather, and sports information they hear, on demand.

Moore says, "The big obstacle Internet radio has faced is how to develop content that makes people want to come back again and again. You will build loyalty with 'choice' and 'convenience.' Together these features increase the number of times listeners connect to the service and improve overall time spent on the site."

Unveiled at this week's Webnoize industry convention in Los Angeles, the new service lets users personalize the types of reports they hear, and even the order they run. Available newscasts include "Headline," business and financial reports, and entertainment varieties like soap opera rundowns and horoscopes. User can also choose to hear results from their favorite sports teams (and only in the sports they select), and local forecasts (again, if they choose). All in all, over 800 newsclips are available, several updated more than once a day. Content for the new feature is supplied by Source Media.

Moore explained that these choices are exactly what will make the service compelling. "The more content we can serve, music or otherwise, that's interactive and gives listeners what they want, when they want to hear it, the farther along we are in producing a winning service."

"We all listen to the radio at different times for different reasons. This service will break the barriers to interactivity we've seen. Visitors won't have to go hunting for the specific news they want every time they log on, and they won't have to choose (from personalization options) every time."

If all goes to plan, the current "breadth of offerings" of the service is just the beginning. Moore is confident that the backend RadioAMP has built for the site will allow the range of content and interactivity to easily grow.

The personalized news feature is to debut on AltaVista Radio and CDNow Radio, and then appear later on other RadioAMP-powered services like NBCi Radio and iWon Radio.

"The channel was first announced in April with an expected summer release. It was accessible to the public Tuesday afternoon and includes music news, Internet radio stations from MTVi's Sonicnet.com, MTV video clips and sales of legal music downloads...

"Excite hopes to augment its e-commerce music play with a more varied offering, including videos that are not widely available on Napster-like file-sharing networks. The deal also gives MTVi a way to syndicate its content and raise brand awareness."

From InternetNews.com: "Scour, Inc., has just announced it will shut down the Scour Exchange community within 48 hours to facilitate a resolution of pending litigation and a sale of its assets in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Scour, Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on October 12, 2000, seeking protection from its creditors...

"Listen.com offered Nov. 1 to purchase Scour for $5 million and 527,918 shares of Listen.com stock. The Listen.com proposal was supported by Scour's board and management.

"However, CenterSpan Communications Corp. has now announced its intent to submit a bid for Scour's assets. If CenterSpan is the winning bidder, it plans to re-launch Scour Exchange in the first quarter of 2001 as a secure and legal digital distribution channel based on CenterSpan's new technology platform."
